I told my daughter who is studying in Scotland this year and on vacation in Greece not to forget to visit Matala and then caves.
I was 18 years old and travelling around Europe when I found myself on Crete and in Matala. I spent a month there in November 1974 and have never forgotten what a magical place it was. I loved every moment of it. I loved the caves, swimming in the med, fantastic food and dancing the night away on the beach. I remember meeting a young Scottish fellow named Sam. He eventually left Greece to live on a kibbutz. There was also a young American fellow from Florida travelling around the world at that time who had stopped over in Matala for a week and was still there after a month.
So young and so free! I hope to make it back some day!
